Competition
Many children love playing sports and games are an important part of school life. All Gateway pupils have an opportunity to play in a School or House team and experience the pride which that role brings. Fixtures in all sports are arranged against state and independent schools at a variety of levels to give as many children as possible the chance to represent the school.
At Gateway we like to emphasise the pleasures of participation and working together in team games. While we love winning at sports, our priority is for children to enjoy being physically active. In Reception the initial focus is on developing co-ordination and fitness. In Year 2 games sessions are introduced and by Year 3 children compete in a wide range of sports against other schools, including swimming, cricket, cross country, hockey, football and rugby. Notable achievements include representing Buckinghamshire at the Lords Taverners eight-a-side National Cricket Finals and winning the South Bucks girls football tournament.
Other Inter-House Competitions at Gateway include Chess, Poetry, Art and General Knowledge. This gives children the chance to compete in different arenas, and raises the profile and status of creative activities within the school.
