Admissions Procedure

Gateway is a non-selective school and welcomes all children whatever their abilities and backgrounds. We encourage prospective parents and children to visit the school at least once before their child starts at Gateway so that the whole family is familiar with the school and staff, and the child feels relaxed and comfortable from the beginning of their first term. Visits might include:

  • A look around the school by parents and child on a Gateway Open Day
  • A personal tour of Gateway by parents and child with Steven Wade, Headteacher
  • An Induction Day. The term before a child starts at Gateway, they may spend a day in the class they will be joining. They might do simple English and Maths work, get to know their teacher, experience the rhythms of the school
  • A New Parent Meeting on the day before term starts. Run by Gateway’s parent body Friends of Gateway (FOG), this is a relaxed Q&A session where new parents can get information and advice from current Gateway parents

Once parents have decided they would like to send their child to Gateway they need to complete a registration form (available at reception). This process costs £40 and is non-refundable. In order to reserve a place, parents pay a deposit of £300 which is refundable against the first term’s fees. This typically is done a year prior to the child starting at Gateway, but can be done earlier or later. We advise parents not to leave it too late since our ‘first come first served’ policy means we can’t guarantee places to later applicants.

Once parents have paid the deposit they receive our New Parent Guidebook which contains useful information about the school and school year.
