Technology is transforming education at an incredible pace, and at Gateway School, we’re embracing it in ways that make learning more engaging, creative, and future-focused. From Canva and coding to the growing influence of AI in education, technology is not just a tool—it’s an integral part of how we inspire, challenge, and support our pupils every day.
Creativity Meets Technology: Canva in the Classroom
Design isn’t just for artists—it’s a skill for life! Our pupils use Canva, a powerful design platform, to create posters, presentations, infographics, and digital storytelling projects. It’s a fantastic way to blend creativity with digital literacy, helping children learn how to present ideas clearly and effectively. Whether designing a persuasive campaign for an English project or a scientific infographic, pupils gain valuable skills in visual communication and design thinking—important abilities in an increasingly digital world.
Cracking the Code: Coding & Robotics at Gateway
Coding isn’t just about writing lines of text—it’s about problem-solving, logic, and creativity. At Gateway, we introduce pupils to coding through block-based programming (like Scratch) in younger years, gradually building towards text-based coding in programs like Python and JavaScript.
Recently, we’ve taken coding one step further with the introduction of Sphero robots! These interactive, programmable robots bring coding to life in a hands-on way. Pupils can code the robots to navigate mazes, solve challenges, and even simulate real-world tasks, making programming both fun and engaging. It’s a brilliant way to reinforce key coding concepts while developing critical thinking and teamwork skills.
Our pupils have already enjoyed experimenting with Spheros, using them to:
🤖 Develop algorithms to guide the robots through obstacle courses.
🎨 Blend creativity and coding by designing interactive games.
🔬 Apply STEM skills in exciting, practical ways.
By combining traditional coding lessons with robotics, we are preparing pupils for a tech-driven future—helping them move from simply consuming technology to creating and controlling it.
AI in Education: How We Use It at Gateway
AI is rapidly shaping the way we learn and teach, and at Gateway, we are integrating it in thoughtful, meaningful ways. But don’t worry—this isn’t about robots taking over the classroom! Instead, we use AI to enhance learning, personalise education, and support teachers in creating engaging lessons.
Here’s how AI is making an impact at Gateway:
✨ Personalised Learning – AI tools help provide tailored resources and feedback, allowing pupils to work at their own pace and level.
✨ Supporting Creativity – AI-assisted platforms help with brainstorming, generating ideas, and encouraging pupils to think outside the box.
✨ Time-Saving for Teachers – AI can help automate some administrative tasks, giving our teachers more time to focus on what really matters—teaching and engaging with pupils.
AI is not replacing traditional teaching but enhancing it, helping both pupils and teachers to work smarter.
Why It Matters
At Gateway, our goal is to equip pupils with the skills they need for the future, whether that’s design, coding, problem-solving, or critical thinking. Technology is a huge part of their world, and by embracing these tools in a meaningful way, we ensure our pupils not only keep up but stay ahead.
As technology continues to evolve, so will our approach—keeping learning at Gateway exciting, relevant, and full of possibilities.
